"I grew up in the Lockyer Valley surrounded by Agriculture and although we didn’t have a working farm, I had the opportunity to experience milking cows, making butter, and growing vegetables at home. I relished every chance to be engaged with the land not only at home but on family and friends’ farms. Many holidays and weekends were spent picking produce, loading trucks for the market and swimming in the creek at days end. We lived for these days surrounded by good friends and agriculture, which I have realised not many children get the opportunity to experience agriculture in the way, which for me ignited a passion.
My life journey has taken me in and out of agricultural related industries, through to heavy industry, back to the land as a fencing contractor and eventually into education, where I found a need to create opportunities in Agriculture for our young people.
I agree with Amanda that we as educators play such an important role in igniting passion for agriculture within school aged children. Through exciting and engaging immersion programs we will promote the amazing scope of Agriculture so that they too can find their place in such an amazing Industry."
